
General characteristics of Punta Francés Beach.
They say that its name is due to the French pirate Francois Leclerc and is located in the southwestern area of the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality located in western Cuba.
Punta Francés Beach is in the middle of Punta Francés and Punta Pedernales about 118 km from the main city Nueva Gerona.
That Beach along its three kilometers has dunes of fine white sand where sea turtles nest and around it there are areas of virgin nature.
That is on the surface but in its depths the landscape can be as beautiful or more beautiful, as it is an area where diving, snorkeling and ecotourism are widely practiced.
The underwater area of the beach has coral reefs, sunken ships, sunken caves and an abundant flora and fauna where sponges, algae, crustaceans, molluscs and several fish of various species predominate.
Punta Francés beach has parrots and Tocororos (the National Bird) in addition to abundant vegetation, making it an almost obligatory stop for tourists who visit Cuba on a cruise and pass by.

Punta Francés Beach belongs to the Punta Francés National Marine Park, founded in 1978 and where there is an International Diving Center.
This facility has 56 sites identified for day and night dives, and is home to world championships in this discipline.
There are also underwater photography contests and courses are offered to lovers of the deep.
In that International Diving Center, the Cuban immersion athlete Deborah Andollo, known as the Mermaid of the Caribbean, set several world records in the varied and constant ballast modalities, and in free body.
