Some historical data on the Cuban education in the Revolution

The history of the Cuban education with the Revolution reaches its biggest transcendent point with the creation of the Ministry of Education.

This important institution, directed by the Cuban State, arises with the objective of eliminating illiteracy, to educate the whole island and to allow access to primary education.

Around December, 1959 10.000 new classrooms were built and the registration to education system rose to approximately almost 90% in the ages of 6 to 12 years.

More than 69 military facilities, of the recent overthrown of the dictatorship, became schools, this facilitated the appearance of new educational institutions with a capacity for 40.000 students.

The Teaching Integral Reformation declared in 1959, established that the primordial objective of the education was the human being’s full development and on June 6th, 1961 the Teaching Nationalization Law was dictated, which suppressed the private education and the old teaching methods.

Outstanding Data on the Cuban Education in the Revolution

Based on an international study on the primary education carried out in the year 2008 by the Latin American Laboratory of Evaluation of the Quality of the Education – sponsored by the Unesco -, it is shown that Cuba obtained the best results among the 12 countries of the area in which was carried out this sampling.

This showed the high rate of net primary education of the country, which reaches almost to 100% of the pupil.

It is also evident that only few students repeat a course, and shows a tendency to dropping with a descent of 0, 5% regarding to the previous course.

This study is a faithful portrait of the meritorious results reached in the last years in the Cuban education with the Revolution.

The Cuban Education in the Revolution Today

Nowadays, the Cuban education in the Revolution System promotes significant improvements in their educational plans.

These improvements also include modifications that point toward an improvement of the student system in the island from all the points of views.

For the improvement of the Cuban educational process a television and a video for each classroom of each school has been placed, all the schools were electrified, educational channels were created, the teaching of Informatics has expanded – including the teaching for blind -, the teaching was universalized, integral teachers were formed, new generations of social workers were formed, Art Teaching Centers were impelled, the Youth Integral Development Course was created, among other programs, which have been directed by the maximum government heads of the country.

Likewise, it fits to highlight that there is an important intention to include in a progressive way the use of the internet in diverse educational centers.
